# MEASURING TOOLS

We sell sod by the “square”.

Sod is cut in 2 x 5 foot rolls.

1 “square” of sod = 100 square feet.

There are 10 rolls of sod in a “square” of sod.

**HELPFUL CONVERSIONS:**

**Square or Rectangle**

Area = Length x Width

Example:

A = 90 x 60

A = 5400 square feet

5400 square feet = 54 squares of sod

**Circle**

Area = Π x Radius x Radius

(Π = 3.14)

Example

A = 3.14 x 20 ‘ x 20’

A = 1256 square feet

**Ovals**

Area = Length x Width at Midpoint x .8

A = .8 LW

Example:

A = .8 x 80 x 40

A= 2560 square feet

**Triangles**

Area = 1/2 x Base x Height

A = 1/2 BH

A = 1/2 x 60 x 120

A = 3600 square feet

**Irregular Shapes within 5% Accuracy **

A = (AA + BB + CC) x 10

Example:

A = (40 + 60 + 32) x 10

A = 132 x 10

A = 1320 square feet

**Unusual Shaped Areas**

Calculations can be made for various sections. For this example:

Calculate and add together:

Area of triangle

Area of rectangle

1/2 Area of circle
